Firebirds Turn Up the Heat at the Robert Comstock Cardinal Track & Field Classic

LANDOVER, MD- the University of the District of Columbia's women's track and field team had a strong showing at the Robert Comstock Cardinal Track and Field Classic. 

Kayla Cooper kicked off the track events clocking in at a season best 7.95s in the 60m dash preliminaries. She went on to run 7.89s in the semi finals and 7.93s in the finals to finish second. The quartet of Isatu Bah, Samantha Morrison, Chacoia Wilkes and Rainn Sheppard placed 2nd in the distance medley relay with a time of 14:19.56. Kayleigh Shelton qualified for the 60m hurdle finals after clocking in at 9.29s then went on to run 9.24s in the finals to place 4th. Zoe Shaw placed 2nd in the high jump with a season best mark of 1.57m. She then went on to jump 10.92m in the triple jump. Tukey Francis ran 1:00.75 in the 400m. Dayna Thompson clocked in at 1:03.63 followed by Mariela Hernandez (1:04.59) and Iyanna Jackson (1:04.71). Samantha Morrison ran a time of 2:25.57 in the 800m and Rainn Sheppard ran 2:27.95. In the 200m, Cooper and Jackson went 6/7 out of a field of 49. They clocked in at 26.43s and 26.46s. Shelton also finished 13th with a time of 27.43s. Emmanuela Katou Kouami threw 13.12m in the weight throw.

Up next, the Firebirds will head to Virginia next Friday to compete in the Winter Classic.
