Firebirds Compete in HBCU Showcase

NEW YORK, N.Y.- the University of the District of Columbia's Women's Track and Field team kicked off the New Year at the HBCU Showcase in the Armory.

Track Events

Kayla Cooper ran a time of 7.99s and Janel Baxter ran 8.19s. Kayleigh Shelton ran 9.35s to place 23rd/31. Cooper ran 26.20s in the 200m to place 18th/82 and Tukey Francis placed 21st/82 with a time of 26.26s. Baxter ran a time of 26.79s and Mariela Hernandez ran a time of 27.33s.

Iyanna Jackson ran a time of 1:05.37 in the 400m and Hernandez ran a time of 1:07.53.

Ayesha Jarrett placed 4th/10 in the 500m with a time of 1:20.78 and Francis placed sixth with a time of 1:22.29.

Rainn Sheppard placed 10th/40 competitors with a time of 2:23.90 and Samantha Morrison placed 11th with a time of 2:25.62.

Field Events

Zoe Shaw jumped 1.55m in the high jump and Emmanuela Katou Kouami threw 14.53m in the weight throw.

Up next, UDC will head to Landover Maryland on the 20th to compete in the Robert Comstock Cardinal Track & Field Classic.
