Thompson Shatters 60m Record as Firebirds Wrap Up Day 1 of the Winter Classic

LEXINGTON, VA.- Dayna Thompson, broke the UDC 60m record twice, and became the only Firebird to run under 7.70s in the event on Day 1 of the Winter Classic meet. 

Both Thompson and Kayla Cooper PR'd in the 60m to qualify for the semifinals. Thompson, in her college debut in the event broke the record with  7.71s and then went on to run 7.68s in the semifinals to qualify for the finals, which will be held tomorrow. Cooper ran a PR of 7.79s in the prelims and then went on to clock in at 7.73s to end the day with a new PR. 

Three Firebirds swept first second and third in the 500m. Ayesha Jarrett crossed the line first with 1:20.17, and was followed up Samantha Morrison (1:20.53) and Tukey Francis (1:22.19).
