Firebirds Dish out Solid Performances in HBCU Showcase

New York, N.Y.- The University of the District of Columbia's women's indoor track and field team competed in the HBCU Showcase, Saturday at the Armory New Balance Track and Field center in N.Y.

Dayna Thompson placed third overall out of a field of 31 in the 400m, with a time of 57.94s. Her time was the fastest division II time of the meet. She went on to compete in the 4x400m that consisted of Tukey Francis, Ayesha Jarrett and kayleigh Shelton that placed 6th with a time of 4:04.02.

Kayla Cooper ran 7.93s in the 60m to place 12th out of a field of 40.

Tukey Francis placed third in the 500m with a time of 1:20.43, which was also the fastest DII time of the meet. 

Kayleigh Shelton ran a time of 9.46s in the 60m hurdles.

Emmanuela Katou Kouami threw 14.33m in the weight throw to place 7th and Zoe Shaw placed 6th in the triple jump with a leap of 10.78m.

Next up, UDC will head to Maryland next Saturday, to compete in the Catholic Indoor Meet.
