Firebirds Impress at Father Diamond Invitational

FAIRFAX, VA – The University of the District of Columbia Women's Indoor Track & Field team competed in the Father Diamond Invitational hosted by George Mason University on Saturday, January 6th.

Junior transfer Shaneika Bowra and sophomore Temera Duncan highlighted the Firebirds' performance in what was a Division I-dominated meet, with UDC the only non-Division I school competing. Bowra was a semifinalist in the 60M, placing 4th of six in her semifinal heat and 13th of 25 overall with a time of 8.03s, and she was 10th of 22 overall and 2nd in Heat 3 with a 26.75 performance in the 200M. Duncan was 9th of 22 with a time of 26.66s in the 200M, and she was 8th of 20 with a time of 1:01.34 in the 400M.

Sophomore Niasia Harding also impressed in the 400M event, as she was less than one second behind Duncan to place 9th at 1:02.30. Also, freshman Dajour Jones was 2nd of 7 in her section and 7th of 13 overall in the 800M with a time of 2:38.19.

The Firebirds also raced a team in the 4x400M Relay, consisting of sophomore Shannell Hibbert, senior Shayna Hodge, senior Kenlyn Duncan and senior Dabrin Snorton. The group ran a time of 4:28.24 to finish 7th.

Next week, UDC will compete in the Spartan Regional Invitational in Staten Island, NY on Jan. 12.
