Six Individual Firebirds Earn All-East Coast Conference Honors Across 10 Track & Field Events

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY – Six different Firebird student-athletes claimed All-East Coast Conference honors across 10 different track & field events as the league office announced the Indoor Track & Field First and Second Team All-Conference awards based on the results of the ECC Championship meet on February 21st.

Junior standout Simone Grant (Health Education – Bronx, NY/Pelham Prep Academy) led the Firebirds with three First Team All-ECC honors (200M, 4x400M Relay, Long Jump) and one Second Team award (60M). She was the event-winner in the 200M with a time of 25.87s, she was edged by .01 of a meter after a battle with Georgian Court's Octavia Booker to place 2nd in the Long Jump with a leap of 5.55M, and she ran the anchor leg of the Firebirds' 4x400M event-winning team which ran a time of 4:02.37s.

Senior Jerily Benjamin (Health Education – Queens, NY/Phillip Randolph HS) earned two First Team All-ECC honors (200M, 4x400M Relay) and one Second Team All-ECC honor (4x200M). Benjamin was 2nd place behind Grant in the 200M with a time of 26.23s. She was also part of the winning 4x400M Relay team, and the 2nd place 4x200M Relay team which ran a time of 1:46.48.

Senior Marlena Wright (Journalism – Bronx, NY/Dewitt Clinton HS) won the 500M event for the 3rd straight year with a time of 1:20.95. She was also a part of the 1st place 4x400M Relay and 2nd place 4x200M Relay. She finished with two First Team All-ECC honors and one Second Team honor.

Senior Kimoy Mais (Mass Media – St. Andrew, Jamaica/St. Andrew HS) finished 2nd in the 500M Relay behind Wright with a time of 1:21.39. This marked the 3rd straight year Wright and Mais finished 1st and 2nd, respectively, in this event. Mais also ran on the winning 4x400M Relay team as she finished with two First Team All-Conference honors.

Also winning two All-Conference honors was junior Brittany Okon (Health Education – Bronx, NY/Pelham Prep Academy). For the second consecutive year, Okon won the 60M event with a time of 7.91s to earn First Team All-ECC. She was also Second Team All-ECC in the 4x200M Relay as she ran on the 2nd place team in that event.

Finally, junior Christina Baker (Psychology – Kingston, Jamaica/Collegiate Institute for Math & Science) earned Second Team All-Conference for the 2nd straight year as she ran on the 4x200M Relay team.

UDC finished 3rd at this year's ECC Championship Meet and is now looking forward to the Outdoor Track & Field season.
