Two-time Reigning Conference Champion Firebirds Picked to Finish 3rd in East Coast Conference Preseason Poll

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY – The two-time reigning East Coast Conference Indoor Track & Field champion University of the District of Columbia Firebirds were picked to finish 3rd in the ECC Preseason Poll in a vote conducted by the league's head coaches.

The favorite to de-throne the league's only champion in the two years the sport has been sponsored by the ECC is Roberts Wesleyan. The Redhawks received four first-place votes to come in 1st with 59 points. RWC is in its first year as a full member of Division II and is now eligible to win ECC and NCAA Championships.

Georgian Court earned two first-place votes to come in 2nd in the poll with 45 points. The Lions held a slim edge over UDC, who earned one first-place vote and 44 points. St. Thomas Aquinas, who came in 4th in the poll with 41 points, received the final 1st place vote.

Also, Georgian Court's Octivia Booker was named Preseason Athlete of the Year. Booker set school records in the long jump (5.72m) and triple jump (11.36m) at Princeton's New Year's Invitational on December 7th.

The ECC Indoor Track & Field Championship Meet will take plan on February 21st in South Huntington, NY.
