Firebirds Get High Place Finishes at UMES Invitational

Princess Anne, MD: February 12, 2011-- The University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Women's Indoor Track & Field Team placed high in their events today at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Invitational in Princess Anne Maryland.  Freshman high jumper Shauna-Kay Creary (Business Management-Kingston, Jamaica) led the team in events with a  second place finish in the women high jump, with distance of 1.57m.

The Firebirds 4x400 meter relay 'A' team finished second in their heat with the time of 4:05.03 minutes. Members of the 'A' team are All-American junior Latoya Allen (Social Work-Washington, DC), Three-time All-American senior Saleena Green (Marketing- Kingston, Jamaica), Two-time All-American junior Kaneesha Hollis (Criminal Justice-Centreville, MD) and sophomore Callister Jones (Marketing-Ft. Washington, MD)

In the  women shot put event,  freshman Arieal Clark (Business Management- Kennesaw, GA) had a 3rd place finish, with the distance of 11.9m., out of a field of eleven competitors. Senior Decoda Waugh (Business- Kingston, Jamaica) placed 3rd in a field of eight in the women long jump with the distance of 4.89m.

Senior Two-time All-American Erica Nixon (Health Education-Bronx, NY) finished 4th in the women 60 meter dash in 8.07 seconds, while freshman Shemeia Barnes (Criminal Justice-Forestville, MD) finished 6th with the time of 8.18 seconds. Barnes also competed in the 200m run and finished 1st in section 5 of the heat, with the time of 27.24, along with Allen who finished 2nd in the same heat with the time of 27.86.           

Jones also competed in the 500 meter run, finishing 4th with a time of 1:21.40, while Franklin came in 6th place with the time of 1:25.19.
