Women's Tennis Takes Down Regional Opponent Adelphi 6-1
WASHINGTON, DC- the University of the District of Columbia's women's tennis team triumphed in a regional match up against NE10 Champs, Adelphi University 6-1, at the UDC Tennis Courts.
The Firebirds took back-to-back victories at No.3 and 2 to clinch the doubles point heading into singles play.
Lina Benjelloun, improved the Firebirds lead to 2-0 after cruising to a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No.5, but the Panthers immediately cut the deficit back to just one after winning at No.3.
Celia Bastin had the quickest match of the day, completely shutting out her opponent 6-0, 6-0 at No.6 and Polina Zelentsova clinched the winning point at No.2 after defeating her opponent in a tough three set match up.
It was a tough three set battle at both the No.1 and 4 positions as well. Laura Marie dropped her first set 5-7, before battling back to win 6-4, 6-2 at No.1. The closest match up came at No.4 as Mariona Franco won her first set 7-5, before falling 6-7(3)in the second set. The third set was just as instense, but Franco came out victorious winning the tiebreaker 7-6(5).
Up next, UDC (8-5, 3-2 ECC) will head to Goldey-Beacom University on Monday for a 2:00pm match up.
