Firebirds Edged out by the Mount

WASHINGTON, DC- the University of the District of Columbia's women's tennis team fell to Mt. St. Mary, 3-4, Friday afternoon.

It was a close match up for the doubles point, as the clincher came down to the No.3 position. Polina Zelentsova and Célia Bastin picked up the first win at No.2 with a 6-3 victory over the opponenets. The Mount went on to win at No.1 (7-5) and No. 3 (7-6(3).

The visitors opened their lead to 2-0 after a win at No.1 before Zelentsova secured the Firebirds first point with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No.2 singles. The Mount got to their third point after a win at No.3, but UDC would win two straight to tie the match up at 3 with the outcome riding on No.6. Claudia Bahamon battled through sets but eventually fell.

Up next, UDC (6-5, 3-2 ECC) will host Copin State next Thursday at 11:00am.
