UDC Women's Tennis Fall Season Comes to a Close in ECC Semi-final

FLUSHING, N.Y.-the University of the District of Columbia's women's tennis team saw their Fall season come to and end after falling to reigning ECC Champions, St Thomas Aquinas College 0-4 in the semi-final. The Firebirds fall to 6-3 on the season, while the Spartans improved to 8-1 and will advance to the ECC Finals.

The Spartans secured the doubles point, winning at No.1 and 2 to take the one point advantage into singles play. Reigning ECC Rookie of the Year Polina Zelentsova forced a tiebreaker at the No.2 position, winning her second set 6-3, after falling 2-6 in the first set. Her third set went unfinished.  Second-team All conference honorees Laura Marie and Mariona Franco were heating up in their second sets leading their opponents at No.1 and 3 after dropping their first sets but their matches would also go unfinished as the Spartans swept the first three singles points to claim victory over the Firebirds. 

Prior to the start of this match up, Claudia Bahamon was awarded with the ECC Elite 20 award. This award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average competing in each of the ECC's 20 championships.

The Firebirds end the season with a 6-3 record and will continue their season in the Spring.
