Brienza Clinches Winning Point in Firebirds 4-3 Victory Over Le Moyne

SYRACUSE, N.Y.- The University of the District of Columbia's women's tennis team pulled away with a big 4-3 road victory over Le Moyne College, Saturday evening at the Elevate Fitness Arena. This marks the Firebirds' 13th straight win, improving their record to 13-0 on the season.

After losing the doubles point at No.2, Simoné Pärn and Sofia Bellucco defeated their opponents 6-1, at No.1 to keep the Firebirds in the running. A tough 6-3 loss at No.3 had UDC down 0-1 going into singles play.

Le Moyne went on to grab wins at No. 2 and No.3 which had the Dolphins up 3-0. Pärn gave the Firebirds their first singles point at No.1 defeating Isabella Barona 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(8) followed up by Joanna Skrzypczynska with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 win at No.4, then Laura Marie with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 win at No.5 to even the score 3-3. Rookie of the Year Valentina Brienza then came through with the 6-3, 6-4 win at No.6 to seal the deal and clinch the 4-3 victory for the Firebirds.

UDC (13-0, 7-0 ECC) will head to Connecticut next Saturday, to face off against Post University. The tip-off time is TBA.
