UDC Women’s Tennis Unable to Withstand Wildcat Comeback, Falls 7-2

WILMINGTON, DE – The University of the District of Columbia women's tennis team took a 2-1 lead after doubles play, but went on to suffer six straight singles losses as the Firebirds fell, 7-2 to Wilmington University in East Region non-conference action Tuesday afternoon at Delcastle Tennis Center.

UDC (4-4) earned victories at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles, as senior Dominika Hadnadova and freshman Anastasiia Danylova teamed up for an 8-4 win, and sophomore Estefania Castrillon and junior Anastasia Khomyachenko battled to a 9-8(5) victory, respectively.

From that point on though, it was all Wildcats, as the hosts rattled off six straight singles wins, beginning with a 5-1, ret. victory by Laura Gil over Paula Avellan at No. 2 singles. WU proceeded to win No. 6, 1, and 4 to clinch the match victory, and later won matches at No. 3 and No. 5 for good measure.

Next up, UDC will host non-region foe Millersville University on Sunday, October 15th.
