Firebirds’ Anastasiia Danylova Earns East Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week

WEST BABYLON, NY – The University of the District of Columbia's Anastasiia Danylova was named East Coast Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for her performance in the week ending Sunday, October 1st. Also, the Firebirds' Florence Clercx was named to the weekly Honor Roll.

Danylova won both of her No. 4 singles and No. 2 doubles matches to help lead UDC to back-to-back ECC road wins last weekend at Daemen College (7-2) and Roberts Wesleyan College (5-4), respectively. Against Daemen on Friday night, she defeated Morgan Park, 6-0, 6-1, and against Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon, she bested Marousia Bosch, 6-4, 6-1. She also teamed up with junior Paula Avellan for and 8-3 doubles win vs. the Wildcats and an 8-6 victory vs. the Redhawks.

Meanwhile, Clercx won both of her No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles matches to help UDC claim the back-to-back victories. She cruised past Daemen's Alliya Foster, 6-0, 6-0, and earned a hard-fought single-set, 7-5 win vs. Roberts Wesleyan's Salome Darsalia. In doubles action, she teamed up with sophomore Estefania Castrillon for an 8-0 victory vs. the Wildcats and an 8-6 win vs. the Redhawks.

UDC is 3-3 overall and 3-2 in league play as they get set to host ECC foe Molloy College on Saturday, October 7th at 11 a.m.
