UDC Women’s Tennis Snaps Three-Match Slide with 7-2 Win at Daemen

WILLIAMSVILLE, NY – Playing in its first dual-match in nine days, the visiting University of the District of Columbia women's tennis team snapped a three-match losing streak with a 7-2 victory over Daemen College in East Coast Conference play Friday night at the Miller Tennis Center.

UDC, which won all three doubles matches and four of the six singles matches, improved to 2-3 overall and an even 2-2 in ECC play. It was the Firebirds' first victory since a 5-4 defeat of league favorite New York Institute of Technology on September 8th, a result that snapped the Bears' 31-match ECC winning streak.

After UDC swept three doubles matches to gain control, the Firebirds secured the victory by adding four wins in singles play. Senior Dominika Hadnadova, a second-team All-ECC pick last season, led the way with her 6-2, 6-4 win at the top of the singles lineup over Daemen freshman Lorissa Yuen. It was the second time in the last seven days that Yuen and Hadnadova had met; Hadnadova had scored a 7-5, 6-1 win at last weekend's Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Region Championship tournament, bouncing Yuen from the main singles draw after she had posted three singles wins of her own in the tournament.

The Firebirds also picked up wins at No. 4, 5 and 6 singles as freshman Anastasiia Danylova defeated Morgan Park, 6-0, 6-1, sophomore Estefania Castrillon swept MacKenzie Robbins, 6-0, 6-0, and freshman Florence Clercx cruised past Alliya Foster, 6-0, 6-0.

UDC is back in action tomorrow morning with a 10 a.m. start for another ECC match vs. Roberts Wesleyan College.
