UDC Women’s Tennis Coasts to 6-1 Victory vs. Philadelphia

WASHINGTON, DC – The University of the District of Columbia women's tennis team earned a 6-1 victory vs. Philadelphia University in non-conference NCAA Division II East Region action Sunday morning at UDC Tennis Courts.

The Firebirds (5-4) won both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches and four of the five singles matches to complete the victory. The Rams (6-10) dropped their 3rd straight match as they fell to 6-10 overall.

The match began with doubles play as Paula Avellan and Estefania Castrillon cruised past Emily Zygmunt and Katelyn High, 8-2 at No. 2 doubles, and Dominika Hadnadova and Alena Skobkina defeated Linde Zwaan and Mariana Sampaio, 8-3 at No. 1 doubles. UDC headed to singles play up 2-0.

Hadnadova earned the first singles points of the day to extend the Firebirds' lead to 3-0 as Zwaan was forced to retire in the first set with Hadnadova up, 4-1.

The next completed singles match marked the collegiate tennis debut of senior Danielle Falco. The Rams' Tabitha Porter defeated Falco, 6-0, 6-0 to earn PhilaU's lone point of the day.

UDC went on to win the final three singles matches in succession, as Skobkina was dominant at No. 2 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win, Avellan impressed with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3, and Castrillon soared to a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 4.

Next up, UDC will host Chestnut Hill on March 28th at 1 p.m.
