Firebirds Women’s Tennis Fall Season Concludes with 5-1 ECC Semifinal Loss to Top-Seeded NYIT

FLUSHING, NY – No. 4 seeded University of the District of Columbia was defeated, 5-1 by top-seeded New York Institute of Technology in East Coast Conference Tournament semifinal action Friday afternoon at Queens College Tennis Center.

UDC (4-4) earned its lone point with an impressive No. 1 doubles win by junior Dominika Hadnadova and junior Alena Skobkina. The upperclassmen pair was down a break and came back to win, 8-6 – its 2nd victory of the season over NYIT's Karolina Pondusova and Gabriela Siembab.

The Firebirds were unable to secure wins in any of the other matches though, and play was halted once NYIT scored its fifth and decisive match point.

UDC, which remains the last ECC team to beat NYIT when it did so in the 2011 ECC Finals, has reached the ECC semifinals now each of the last six years. The Bears, who pushed their ECC winning streak to 41 with today's win, advance to the Finals where they look to win their 5th straight ECC Championship. They will face the winner of the No. 2 Queens vs. No. 3 LIU Post semifinal match later today.
