UDC Women’s Tennis Defeated at Queens, 8-1
FLUSHING, NY – The University of the District of Columbia women's tennis team was defeated by East Coast Conference foe Queens College, 8-1 on a hot Saturday morning at Queens College.
The Firebirds (1-1) got their lone win at No. 2 singles, with junior Alena Skobkina besting Ruth Arteza, 7-6(6), 6-3 in a terrifically-played match. UDC lost matches at No. 1 and 2 doubles and No. 1, 3, 4, and 5 singles, and it forfeited matches at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles due to an insufficient lineup.
In other singles action, top-singles player Dominika Hadnadova won her second set vs. Laura Ortega Jover, 6-3 after dropping the first set, 6-4. She was out-lasted, 10-6 in the third set, however, and took the loss.
