Hadnadova and Skobkina Earn Women’s Tennis All-East Coast Conference Honors

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY – Sophomore Dominika Hadnadova and junior Alena Skobkina of the University of the District of Columbia were named Women's Tennis First and Second Team All-East Coast Conference, respectively, as voted on by the conference's coaches.

Hadnadova played the top singles position for the Firebirds and earned a 5-4 overall record and 5-2 mark in ECC play. After starting off the season 0-2, she won her final five ECC singles matches, including an impressive, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 win vs. Queens College's Sumeera Kamil, and a 6-1, 6-3 win over Daemen's Second Team All-ECC selection, Karli Hollins. She also earned decisive singles victories vs. Molloy, Daemen, Roberts Wesleyan and St. Thomas Aquinas.  

Hadnadova teamed with Skobkina at the No. 1 doubles flight and finished the season 5-5 overall and 5-2 in league play. The pair also lost its first two matches of the season vs. NYIT and LIU Post, but bounced back to win their final five matches. Their most impressive win of the season came vs. Queens, where they defeated Kamil and First Team All-ECC selection Andrea Samson, 9-7.

Skobkina played the No. 2 singles position for UDC and finished 5-4 overall and 5-2 in ECC play. Her only two ECC losses came to First Team All-ECC selections, Melanie Benyadi of NYIT and Andrea Samson of Queens. She completed a 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 comeback victory over LIU Post's Lucie Chrastecka to lift the Firebirds to a 5-4 victory over the Pioneers on September 5th, and she earned decisive wins over Molloy, Daemen and St. Thomas Aquinas. She also won a three-set match vs. Marine Kennel of Roberts Wesleyan.

The Firebirds finished 5-5 overall as a team and qualified for the ECC Championship Tournament semifinals for a 5th straight season. UDC was a No. 3 seed, and fell 5-0 to No. 2 seed and tournament host Queens.

Play will resume in the spring where the Firebirds will look to build on their NCAA Division II Tournament resume and qualify for an at-large bid.
