WASHINGTON, DC – The University of the District of Columbia women's tennis team was defeated by Chowan University, 6-3 in non-regional play at UDC Tennis Courts on a beautiful, Columbus Day Monday afternoon.

The Firebirds (4-4) took a 2-1 lead heading into singles play, but the Hawks (1-0) came soaring back to win five of the six singles matches to claim victory.

The UDC No. 3 doubles pair of Laura Dimante and Laura Rojas defeated Jessica De Backre and Natalia Andrade, 8-4 for the first point of the match. Then, following a Firebirds loss at No. 1 doubles, Zoe Mall and Peerada Looareesuwan defeated Cynthia Carrier and Roxana Daneshjoo, 8-6 at No. 2.

The Hawks, however, went on to win the final three singles matches at No. 4, 5 and 6. Both Dimante and Rojas won the 2nd sets of their respective matches at No. 5 and 6, but each lost the deciding 3rd set.
