Women's Tennis Downed by Queens, 7-2

WASHINGTON, DC - The University of the District of Columbia Women's Tennis team suffered a 7-2 defeat vs. East Coast Conference foe Queens College (NY) on a beautiful Sunday afternoon in the nation's capital.

Sophomore Dominika Hadnadova (Business Management - Sala, Slovakia/Eastern Kentucky) put forth a tremendous effort for the Firebirds, winning her No. 1 singles match vs. Sumeera Kamil, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1, and teaming with junior Alena Skobkina (Chemistry - Tarragona, Spain/Walsh University) for a 9-7 doubles win at the 1st flight.

Queens (3-0), picked to finish 2nd (one spot above UDC) in the ECC preseason poll, won the No. 2 and 3 doubles matches, 8-6 and 8-5, respectively, and won the No. 2 through No. 6 singles matches.

Skobkina battled the Knights' Andrea Samson at No. 2 singles, forcing a 3rd set after she won the 2nd, 6-4. She was ultimately outlasted, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.

The Firebirds (2-3, 2-2 ECC) will have a long rest before they travel to Amherst, NY to battle ECC foe Daemen on September 25th at 4 p.m.
