Firebirds Surge Past Molloy, 9-0

WASHINGTON, DC – The University of the District of Columbia Women's Tennis team evened its record at 2-2 with a resounding, 9-0 win over East Coast Conference foe Molloy on a gorgeous Friday afternoon in the nation's capital.

The Firebirds dominated doubles and singles play, sweeping all three doubles matches, 8-0, and winning five of the six singles matches in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. Molloy fell to 0-3 to start the 2015 season with today's loss.

The match began with doubles play, where the first result in saw the UDC No. 3 pair, Laura Rojas and Laura Dimante, improve to 3-1 on the season with an 8-0 win over Tiffany Nagasawa and Krystal Bottone. Senior Peerada Looareesuwan and freshman Zoe Mall then turned in their first doubles win of the season at No. 2, followed by Dominika Hadnadova and Alena Skobkina's first doubles win of the season at No. 1 – both by identical scores of 8-0.

Dimante (Business Management – Riga, Latvia/Rigas Teikas), the reigning ECC Rookie of the Year, was the first to complete her singles win as she cruised past Nagasawa, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5. Skobkina (Chemistry – Tarragona, Spain/Walsh University), a junior transfer, clinched the match victory with the 5th team point as she dealt Megan Scali a 6-1, 6-0 loss at No. 2.

Next to win her singles match for UDC was Looareesuwan, a returning First Team All-ECC selection from a year ago. She evened her record on the season at 2-2 with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Emily Rosen at No. 3. Mall also improved to 2-2 in this, her rookie season, shutting out Christie Catterson at No. 4, 6-0, 6-0.

UDC's top singles player, sophomore transfer Dominika Hadnadova (Business Management – Sala, Slovakia/Eastern Kentucky), earned her first career victory as a Firebird with a convincing, 6-0, 6-0 win over Tatiana Rajaona.

Finally, the match concluded with Rojas (Civil Engineering – Bogota, Columbia/Jackson State University) improving to 3-1 on the season at No. 6 after a 6-0, 6-0 win over Krystal Bottone to complete the match sweep.

UDC, picked No. 3 in the ECC Preseason Poll, will host the preseason ranked No. 2 team in the league and perennial powerhouse, Queens College on Sunday, September 13th at 11 AM.
