Women’s Tennis Swept by Georgetown in Season Home Opener

WASHINGTON, DC – The University of the District of Columbia women's tennis team was swept, 9-0 by Division I crosstown rival Georgetown University in its season home opener on Wednesday afternoon at UDC Tennis Courts.

The Hoyas (1-0), playing their first match of the 2015 Fall season, won all three doubles matches and then all six singles matches to complete the shutout. UDC fell to 1-2 on the season with today's loss.

Among the bright spots for the Firebirds were the singles play of top singles player, sophomore transfer Dominika Hadnadova (Business Management – Sala, Slovakia/Eastern Kentucky) and senior No. 3 singles player Peerada Looareesuwan (Computer Science – Bangkok, Thailand/Valdosta State University). Hadnadova, who has battled hard in all three matches this season but come up winless in all three, won her first set, only to fall to Mimi Lynham, 4-6, 6-2, 10-6. Looareesuwan put up a fight vs. Daphne de Chatellus as well, but was outlasted, 6-3, 7-6 (4).

Hadnadova was also impressive in doubles play, teaming up with junior transfer Alena Skobkina (Chemistry – Tarragona, Spain/Walsh University) at the top flight and putting a scare into Victoire Saperstein and Mimi Lynham before falling by a sore of 8-6.

UDC is back in action this weekend, with back-to-back East Coast Conference matchups vs. Molloy on Friday, September 11th at 2 p.m., and Queens on Sunday, September 13th at 11 a.m.
