UDC Women’s Tennis Earns East Coast Conference Academic Team of Excellence Award

ECC Release

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY – The University of the District of Columbia women's tennis team was announced as the recipient of the East Coast Conference Academic Team of Excellence Award for the 2014-15 academic year.

The ECC Academic Team of Excellence Awards is presented to the team with the highest cumulative grade point average in their respective sport. This marks the 2nd time head coach Dickie Mahaffey's UDC women's tennis team has earned the honor in the last three years.

"We are very proud of the academic achievements by the teams honored this year as our ECC Academic Teams of Excellence," ECC Commissioner, Dr. Robert Dranoff said. "All of our student-athletes put a great deal of time and effort to developing and succeeding athletically, but just as important, they are also very committed to achieving academically as well as in serving their communities."

Earlier this month, the UDC women's tennis team also earned Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team honors and four individual Scholar Athlete Awards: Alicia Gallard, Laura Rojas, Maxime Duijst and Peerada Looareesuwan.

Mahaffey's women's tennis squad has qualified for ECC post-season play the past four consecutive seasons, winning the ECC Championship and advancing to the NCAA Division II Round of 16 in 2011-12.
