Firebirds Fall at Division I George Mason, 6-1

FAIRFAX, VA – Senior Maxime Duijst earned an impressive No.1 singles win, but the University of the District of Columbia women's tennis team was defeated, 6-1 vs. Division I foe George Mason on Sunday afternoon.

The Patriots earned the doubles point (based on Division I scoring) as they swept the shorthanded Firebirds in doubles with victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 pairings as well as a forfeit at No. 3.

With UDC short by one player, George Mason had a 2-0 lead heading into singles play. The Patriots clinched the match victory with singles wins at No. 6 and No. 3, and they went on to win three more matches at No. 5, 4 and 2, respectively.

Duijst ended the match on a happy note for the Firebirds as she battled to beat Jane Awad, 6-4, 1-6, 10-7 at the top singles spot.

Next up, the Firebirds will visit the No. 5 ranked Division II team in the East Region, Goldey-Beacom College on Friday, March 27th.
