UDC Women’s Tennis Suffers 6-3 Loss at Merrimack

MIDDLETON, MA – The University of the District of Columbia women's tennis team was defeated by regional foe Merrimack, 6-3 on Sunday, March 15th at the Northeast Tennis Center.

Senior Alicia Gallard (Business Management – Blaison-Gohier, France/Shorter University) and junior Peerada Looareesuwan (Computer Science – Bangkok, Thailand/Valdosta State) led the Firebird effort by winning their respective singles matches and teaming up to win at No. 2 doubles. UDC lost the No. 1 doubles match and three of the five singles matches played while forfeiting the No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles matches due to an insufficient lineup.

Gallard and Looareesuwan battled to win their No. 2 doubles match 8-6 vs. Merrimack's Shakee Messina and Rachel Muller. Gallard, who won her singles and doubles matches on back-to-back days this weekend, defeated Danielle Dunn, 6-1, 6-4 at No. 4 singles. Looareesuwan, meanwhile, earned a gritty, comeback victory after losing the first set, 6-1 to Chealsey Giatrelis. She won the 2nd set, 6-4 and edged Giatrelis, 7-6 in the tiebreaker.

The Warriors of the Northeast-10 Conference improved to 13-8 overall this season while the Firebirds fell to 7-6.

Next up, UDC will visit George Mason on Sunday, March 22nd at 12 p.m.
