UDC Women’s Tennis Falls to Southern New Hampshire, 8-1 in Spring Opener

GOFFSTOWN, NH – Senior Alicia Gallard earned the Firebirds lone point of the day as the visiting University of the District of Columbia women's tennis team was defeated by regional foe Southern New Hampshire, 8-1 on Saturday night at the Allard Center.

Gallard (Business Management – Blaison-Gohier, France/Shorter University) earned an impressive comeback victory at No. 4 singles over SNHU's Jamie Hann as she was edged, 7-6 in the first set but bounced back to win 6-7, 7-5, 10-5.

Junior Peerada Looareesuwan (Computer Science – Bangkok, Thailand/Valdosta State) also forced a tie-breaker after losing the first set in her No. 2 singles match vs. Ashley Loft. She won the second set, 6-4 but was outlasted in the tiebreaker, 10-6.

The Firebirds (7-5), who forfeited the No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles matches due to an insufficient lineup, were very competitive at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, but fell short in both of those matches.

Southern New Hampshire, a Northeast-10 Conference team ranked No. 7 in the East Region, improved to 12-3 overall with today's win.

UDC will take on another NE-10 school, Merrimack, tomorrow, Sunday, March 15th.
