UDC Earns No. 3 Seed as East Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Championship Field Set

FLUSHING, NY – The University of the District of Columbia women's tennis team has earned a No. 3 seed in the 2014 East Coast Conference Women's Tennis Championship Tournament, and the Firebirds will take on the host, No. 2 seed Queens College in the semifinals on Friday, October 24th at 2 p.m.

UDC finished the regular season with an overall record of 7-3 and league mark of 6-2. The Firebirds won their final three matches of the regular season against conference foes Daemen, Roberts Wesleyan and Dowling. Meanwhile, Queens is 9-1 overall and 7-1 in the ECC. The Knights defeated UDC, 8-1 when the two teams met in Flushing, NY earlier this season on Sept. 20.

Championship action commences on Friday, October 24th at 11 a.m. when ECC Regular Season Champion NYIT takes on No. 4 seed LIU Post. The Bears are the two-time defending ECC champions, and they finished the regular season 8-0 in ECC play (10-0 overall). NYIT currently has a 21-match win streak vs. ECC opponents, including championship play. LIU Post makes the Championship field for the second straight season after finishing with a 5-3 ECC )7-4 overall) record.

The winners of the semifinals will advance to the championship match on Saturday at noon.
