UDC Women’s Tennis Bounces Back to Beat LIU Post, 4-2

ARLINGTON, VA – The University of the District of Columbia women's tennis team earned a 4-2 victory over East Coast Conference foe LIU Post on Saturday afternoon at YMCA Arlington Tennis Center.

The Firebirds improved to 3-1 overall (2-1 ECC) with the win while LIU Post suffered its first loss of the season and fell to 2-1 overall (2-1 ECC).

UDC dropped the 1st doubles match as Maxime Duijst (Biology – Valkenswaard, Netherlands/Pleincollege Sint Joris) and junior Laura Rojas (Civil Engineering – Bogota, Columbia/Jackson State) were bested by Didi Fatchikova and Lucie Chrastecka, 8-1 for the first point of the match. Junior Peerada Looareesuwan (Computer Science – Bangkok, Thailand/Valdosta State) and reigning ECC rookie of the week Laura Dimante (Business Management – Riga, Latvia/Rigas Teikas) evened the score, however, as they beat Heena Kewalramani and Laura Harwell, 8-3 at 2nd doubles.

Senior Alicia Gallard cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 No. 5 singles victory over Meagan Byrne to put UDC ahead, 2-1, but Duijst was defeated by Fatchikova, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 to force another tie, 2-2.

Then, Dimante and Rojas both came through with thrilling victories. First, Dimante came back after losing her first set to beat Kewalramani, 2-6, 6-4, 7-5. Rojas won a very competitive match vs. Harwell, winning the first set 6-3, losing the second, 4-6, and then winning the third, 6-3.

With the Firebirds having clinched the match victory, Looareesuwan and Chrastecka's No. 2 singles match was left unfinished.

Next up, UDC will visit ECC foe Molloy on Friday, September 19th at 3 p.m.
