District of Columbia Falls to Concordia on Senior Day, 7-2

WASHINGTON, DC - The University of the District of Columbia women's tennis team lost to Concordia College, ranked No. 3 in the East Region, 7-2.  The loss is their second in as many matches.

Today also was Senior Day for the Firebirds.  The senior representatives on the women's tennis team were Tadai Abilla (TV Production – Galloway, NJ/Absegami HS) and Kristyna Nepivodova (Economics – Breznice, Czech Republic/Gymnasium pod Svatou Horou).  Abilla amassed a three-year 24-18 record in singles play and 18-6 in doubles.  Nepivodova posted a three-year career with an overall record of 28-5 in singles play and 29-7 in doubles.

The Firebirds began the day with a forfeit at the No. 3 doubles match due to an insufficient lineup.  In the No. 2 doubles match, junior Sofia Leon (Psychology – Quito, Ecuador/Pensionado Universitario) and Abilla fell to Linda Eliasson and Ana Mendes, 8-0.  Junior Jessica Nunez (Electrical Engineering – Guayaquil, Ecuador/American School of Guayaquil) and sophomore Maxime Duijst (Biology – Valkenswaard, Netherlands/Pleincollege Sint-Joris) were defeated by Luisa Candido and Yuliya Plevako, 8-4.

Singles play started with a loss due to forfeit for the Firebirds because of an insufficient lineup.  In her last match for the Firebirds, Nepivodova defeated Alla Kravchuk 6-3, 6-3 to give District of Columbia their first win.  Candido of Concordia then followed up with a win over Duijst 6-2, 6-1 and clinched the overall victory for the Clippers.

In the No. 4 singles match, Leon was defeated by Mendes, 8-2.  The final win for the Firebirds came at the hands of Nunez as she won a close match over Eliasson 6-3, 6-7(1), 10-8.  Abilla played her final match as a Firebird where she lost to Estelle Fougeray by a score of 8-2.
