UDC Women’s Tennis Reaches ECC Championship Finals
Washington, DC—The UDC Women's Tennis Team won their semi-final match-up against Dowling College and has advanced on to the finals on Thursday. The Firebirds came out on fire winning by an impressive 5-0.
The women's team dominated in doubles play. Sophomore Jessica Nunez and Senior Maria Vitkina took down Robyn Romanoff and Kauana Gonclaves 8-3. Junior Kristyna Nepivodova and Freshman Maxime Duijst combined to defeat Amber O'Malley and Courtney Deveau, 8-0. Also Junior Tadai Abilla and Freshman Sofia Leon defeated Alyssa Krolick and Michelle Disanto by a score of 8-0.
The women's team did not slow down when it came down to singles competition. The Firebirds clinched a spot in the finals when Vitkina and Leon picked up singles wins. Vitkina came out on top against Amber O'Malley 6-0, 6-0. Leon also had a dominating performance by beating Alyssa Krolick 6-0, 6-0.
The Firebirds return to the courts at 12:00 Thursday at the UDC Tennis Facility to face NYIT, the winner of the other Semi-final match, to compete in the ECC Championship Finals.
