UDC Tennis Competes at the ITA East Regional: Day 1

Philadelphia, PA—The Men's and Women's Tennis Teams competed Saturday at the ITA East Regional located at the Arthur Ashe Jr. Youth Tennis Center. The day was highlighted by Sophomore Jessica Nunez earning the number one ranking in the entire tournament and Junior Kristyna Nepivodova receiving the number eight spot overall.

The women's team battled throughout the day showing their true fight. The team was led by Junior Kristyna Nepivodova, who advanced to the Round of 16 to be played on Sunday. She won her first match against Kelly Dennis of Chestnut Hill College by a score of 3-6, 7-5, 10-6. Nepidova also paired up with Firebird Freshman Maxime Duijst to defeat Taylor Barber and Daniela Celi 8-5 in doubles play.

On the men's side, the Firebirds competed very well in singles play. Advancing to the Round of 16 was Sophomore Miguel Uzcategui as he took down Southern New Hampshire University's Alex Mudaprakorn 6-1, 6-2. Freshman Simon Andersson also advanced by winning in straight sets against David Kazekevich 6-0, 6-4.

Head Tennis Coach T. Richard Mahaffey was pleased with both of his team's performances and is ready to move on to the next round.

The ITA East Regional continues Sunday in Philadelphia, PA.
