UDC Women's Tennis Make it A Winning Weekend by Defeating Chowan, 8-1

Washington, DC: October 9, 2010-- The University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Women's Tennis Team had a big winning weekend, defeating the Chowan University Hawks, 8-1, today at the UDC Tennis Courts in Washington, DC. The win was one of their best this season and improves their record to 2-8.

The Firebirds swept the doubles matches,3-0, and then took 4 of the singles matches to clinch the victory. In  doubles competition, East Coast All- Conference (ECC) Freshman Jessica Nunez (Electrical Engineering-Guayaquil,Ecuador and  ECC All-Conference senior  Maria Vitkina(Sociology-Ekateringburg,Russia) defeated Inesa Asatryan  and Brittany Bullock, 8-1. Then sophomore Tadai Abilla(T.V. Production-Galloway, NJ) and junior Aida Gueye (Business-Alexandria, VA) won their doubles competition by defeating Tara Lunney and Jena'y Nelson 8-4.

The singles rally was started by Nunez's 7-5, 6-3, defeat of Asatryan. Vitkina bolstered her win record by defeating Bullock 6-2, 6-0.

Abilla continued the UDC singles rally with a 6-4,6-2, win over Lunney. Freshman Phantasia Nolan (Business-Washington, DC) then defeated Brittney Moser, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.  Sophomore  Clarice Melvin( Criminal Justice-Fort Washington, MD) dropped her singles match to Nelson, 6-0,6-1.
