Lady Firebirds Top Lady Bears 8-1

WASHINGTON, D C : MARCH 12, 2007—The University of the District of Columbia Lady Firebirds Tennis Team opened their home 2007 season today by defeating the Shaw University Lady Bears 8-1 on the UDC Tennis Courts. The Lady Firebirds won all singles matches and won two of three doubles matches, to improve their season record to 1-2, and gain their first win of the season.

The singles matches saw Nerissa Peterson-Paul (UDC) defeat Lawson Monique (SU) 6-1, 6-4; Edith Chidi (UDC) defeated Juanique Thompson (SU) 6-3, 6-0; Patricia Ofori (UDC) defeated Xania Steele (SU) 6-2, 6-2; Eniola Barkare (UDC)0 defeated Kim Moore (SU) 1-6, 6-4, 10-4; Olunatoyin Oderine (UDC) defeated Kiara Henderson (SU) 6-0, 6-0, and Robin Williams (UDC) defeated Jasmine Rivera (SU) 8-5.

In doubles competition Peterson-Paul/Chidi (UDC) defeated Lawson/Thompson (SU) 8-6; Steele/Moore (SU) defeated Barkare/Oderine (UDC) 8-4, and Ofori/Williams (UDC) defeated Henderson/Rivera (SU)
 8-1.

The Lady Firebirds will see their next action against the Howard University Lady Bisons on March 14, 2007, at Howard.
