Nine Firebirds Score En Route to First Win of the Season

WASHINGTON, DC- the University of the District of Columbia's women's lacrosse team defeated Trinity Washington University 24-5, to pick up their first win of the season.

Nine Firebirds made it onto the scoreboad in today's match up, with Michelle Mitchell leading the way with seven goals and an assist. Jada Williams and Najee Gunter each had five goals, Tiffany Canales-Velasquez had two and Gabriela Martinez, Kensley Benjamin, Keliah Tucker, Shanise Taylor and Shannen Graham had one apiece.

While TWU got on the scoreboard first, UDC outscored the visitors 15-3 in the opening quarter. The Firebirds went on to open that deficit to 19 by the end of the third quarter which led to the Tigers throwing in the towel and calling it a game. 

This marks the Firebirds first win with a 19 point deficit, and 24 is the most goals scored in a single game in program history. 

The Firebirds led in all statistical categories outshooting the Tigers 38-6, winning 21 out of 31 draw controls and scooping up 21 ground balls comapred to the visitors seven.

Up next, UDC (1-10, 0-4 ECC) will host Molloy University in conference play on Saturday at the Jackson Reed H.S Field. The game is slated to begin at 11:00am.
