Firebirds Valiantly Fall, 21-5 to Chestnut Hill

WASHINGTON, DC – The University of the District of Columbia women's lacrosse team bravely challenged Chestnut Hill in a 21-5 defeat Thursday afternoon at the UDC Sports Complex.

The Firebirds (1-6, 0-3 ECC) battled against Chestnut Hill who are now 3-3 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

UDC had some tremendous moments in the game that saw freshman midfielder Shemara Jefferson score two goals off seven shots in the first half of the game. She was accompanied by another fine performance by sophomore Kianna Franklin who contributed two goals,one assist, five ground balls, four turnovers and controlled eight draws.

Sophomore Melan White provided a memorable moment for the Firebirds as she scored her first career goal. This was made even more notable by the fact that White is a goalkeeper she has provided versatility and character to take the task of playing in another role this season.

A stellar performance by sophomore goalkeeper Jada Foy saw her save 15 shots off 36 to place her 6th in the East Coast Conference in saves with 58 and a 40% save percentage.

Hunter Leckonby led the visitors Chestnut Hill to victory with a game-high five goals and one assist and she was followed by Julia Galantich with four goals to help the Griffins to their third win of the season.

The Firebirds will be in action against Nyack College, Tuesday, April 3rd at 2PM at the UDC Sports Complex.
