Trio of Firebirds Score in Historic First Ever Lacrosse Game Played on UDC Campus

WASHINGTON, DC – Kianna Franklin, Aaliyah Carter and Jazmin Lopez all scored for the Firebirds in a 16-3 loss to the No. 5 ranked team in Division II, LIU Post, as the University of the District of Columbia women's lacrosse team hosted the historic first ever lacrosse game at UDC Field on the Van Ness campus on Saturday afternoon.

Head coach Melynda Brown said she was very happy with her team's performance and their ability to stick together as a unit.

"When you're playing the No. 5 ranked team in the country and you're still building a program, it's very easy to get down, but that's not what my girls did today," the 4th year coach said. "We played a very good team today, and that helped us get ready for our next game."

The Firebirds fell to 1-6 overall and 0-4 in the ECC with today's loss while LIU Post earned its sixth straight win to improve to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in league play.

The Pioneers jumped out to a commanding 11-1 halftime lead and never looked back. Franklin scored UDC's lone goal of the first half.

The 2nd half saw LIU Post extend its lead to 16-1 before UDC's Carter and Lopez scored back-to-back goals to close out the scoring for the day in the final six minutes.

UDC had a total of 19 ground balls– just four shy of its season-high 23 set vs. Davis & Elkins. Also, freshman goalkeeper Jada Foy stopped 10 of 26 shots faced – her third double-figure save game this season.

Next up, UDC will host ECC foe Mercy College on Sunday, April 9th.
