Spartan Surge Too Much for Firebirds in 17-5 Loss at St. Thomas Aquinas

SPARKILL, NY – The University of the District of Columbia women's lacrosse team was defeated by East Coast Conference foe St. Thomas Aquinas College, 17-5 on Saturday, April 23rd at Spartan Field.

The Firebirds (1-11, 0-6 ECC) were led offensively by senior midfielder Amber Walls, who registered two goals and one assist. Vanessa Valentine, Yara Oudat and Aaliyah Carter each scored one goal apiece as well.

The Spartans (9-7, 4-3 ECC) snapped a three-game losing streak, as they were led by Caroline Finnen's game-high four goals on six shots. Courtney Dumain added a game-high five points on two goals and three assists, and Ruth Pluviose pitched in two goals and two assists. STAC had 10 different goal scorers on the day.

STAC had a 30-16 shot advantage (22-13 SOG), won 13-of-24 draw controls and five more ground balls (12-7), and it turned the ball over two fewer times (13-11). UDC's 13 turnovers today was, however, a season-low, and the Firebirds' five goals vs. a conference opponent was a program high.

The Firebirds close out the 2016 regular season with home games vs. ECC foes Queens College (Friday, April 29th) and Molloy College (Sunday, May 1st).
