UDC Women’s Lacrosse Defeated by Alderson-Broaddus, 14-8

PHILIPPI, WV – The University of the District of Columbia women's lacrosse team was defeated by Alderson-Broaddus University, 14-8 on Saturday afternoon at AB Multi-Sport Field.

The Firebirds (1-6) were led offensively by freshman midfielder Vanessa Valentine (four goals) and junior defender Aaliyah Carter (three goals, one assist). Junior goalkeeper Dani Falco stopped 12 shots in a losing effort. With eight goals and two assists today, UDC has more than doubled last year's season goal total of 21 with 46 and already surpassed last year's assists total of four with five.

Alderson-Broaddus (5-4) had eight different goal-scorers, including three with hat tricks – Jasmine Barham, Krista Cooper, and Mykirah Jones.

The Battlers out-shot UDC 33-17, had seven fewer turnovers (20-13) and won the ground ball battle, 16-12. Alderson-Broaddus was 17-of-18 in clear attempts and UDC was 13-of-18.

Neither team scored for nearly 10 minutes to start the game, but it was Valentine who opened the scoring and gave UDC the game's first lead at 20:15. AB went on to out-score UDC 5-1 the rest of the half, and took a 5-2 lead at intermission.

Allison Rogers scored an unassisted goal two minutes into the second half to extend the Battlers' lead to 6-2, but UDC responded with three straight goals to pull within one, 6-5. Carter, senior attack Amber Walls, and Valentine all scored in succession within a span of just 1:03.Carter later added her 3rd goal of the game less than a minute after a Barham goal for Alderson-Broaddus, and once again UDC trailed by just a goal, 7-6.

The Battlers responded with two straight goals to pad their lead to 9-6 as they went on to outscore UDC 7-2 in the final 10 minutes of regulation to win by their largest margin of the day.
