Dotson Scores Four Goals as Firebirds Break Program Record With Six Goals in Loss to Chowan

MURFREESBORO, NC – Sophomore defender Dominique Dotson erupted for a program record-tying four goals on Saturday afternoon as the 2nd-year Firebirds women's lacrosse program set a new team record for the 2nd consecutive game with six goals in a 20-6 loss at Chowan University.

The Firebirds (0-4) took 20 shots, collected 25 ground balls and had 13 caused turnovers – all season-highs for 2nd year head coach Melynda Brown's ever-improving squad. Dotson's scoring counterpart was senior Amber Walls (Biology – Temple Hills, MD/Surrattsville HS), who added her team-best 7th and 8th goals of the season. Sophomore goalkeeper Dani Falco (Elementary Education - Middletown, NY/Valley Central HS) made eight saves in the loss.

Chowan, which competes in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, improved to 2-4 with the win. The Hawks were led by attack Mackenzie Reid's game-high seven goals, and four goals apiece by Charisse Wilcox and Adriea Herndon.

Reid scored back-to-back goals after the game-opening goal by Cindy Escobar as Chowan soared to a 3-0 start less than eight minutes into the action. Less than a minute later, Walls put the Firebirds on the board with an unassisted goal to make it 3-1.

The Hawks would then pad their lead to six with four consecutive goals, including another by Reid. At that point, Dotson, who had yet to score all season, ripped off three of the game's next four goals in a span of just over seven minutes to cut the deficit to four, 8-4 with 6:50 to play in the first half. Chowan's Tyra Simmons scored the final goal of the half right around the six-minute mark as the Hawks led 9-4 at the break.

In the second half, Herndon, Reid and Wilcox each scored a pair of goals with two other players adding a goal apiece as Chowan padded its lead to 17-4 with an 8-0 run over a span of just over 10 minutes. Walls and Dotson each added one more goal in succession to make it 17-6, but that was as close as UDC would get as the Hawks closed out the game on a 3-0 run to win 20-6.

UDC will return to East Coast Conference play as they host Roberts Wesleyan on Friday, March 27th at 3 p.m. The game will be played at Woodrow Wilson HS in Washington, DC.
