IWLCA Recognizes UDC Women’s Lacrosse as Academic Honor Squad

IWLCA Release

GRAND LAKE, CO – The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) has recognized University of the District of Columbia women's lacrosse as a 2014 Academic Honor Squad.

IWLCA recognized 254 schools across NCAA Divisions I, II and III with a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. Forty-five of those schools were Division II, including UDC – a first-year program under head coach Melynda Brown. The Firebirds had an overall team GPA of 3.060.

"I'm very happy with the team's accomplishments in the classroom," Brown said. "This honor will be our goal every year because academics come first. We can always strive to be better."

The Firebirds recently had 46 student-athletes named to the East Coast Conference Commissioner's Honor roll, awarded to those who receive a 3.25 or better cumulative grade point average. Six of those student-athletes were members of the UDC Women's Lacrosse team.
