Quick Start Gives UDC First Lead of Season; Firebirds Still Lose to Bridgeport in Season Finale

WASHINGTON, DC – Freshman attack Jazmin Lopez and sophomore midfielder Tiara Goode scored back-to-back goals early in the first half to help UDC claim its first lead of the season, 2-1, but Bridgeport went on to score the next 14 goals and cruise to a 17-3 victory in both teams' season finale Sunday afternoon.

After the game, the Firebirds honored the four seniors on the school's historic inaugural women's lacrosse team: midfielder Snezana Blagojevic (Business Management – Kragujevac, Serbia/Shepherd), attack Sara Stuart (Psychology – Turlock, CA/San Joaquin Delta College), midfielder Tara Usko (History – Spring Creek, NV/Feather River College) and attack Nova Coston (Psychology – Jamaica Queens, NY/Bayside HS).

Usko scored the final goal of the day for the Firebirds at the 12:31 mark in the second half. Looking to pass to a cutting Lana Oudat, Usko fired the ball towards the goal and it soared past Bridgeport goalkeeper Megan Carney for her first career goal in her final lacrosse game at UDC. She also won a team-high four draw controls.

Meanwhile, UDC freshman goalkeeper Dani Falco stopped 10 of 27 shots on goal and collected a team-high three ground balls in a complete game effort for the Firebirds.

Bridgeport (4-13, 1-7 ECC) was led offensively by midfielder Gabrielle Valela with six points on four goals and two assists. Shealyn Scully also added four points on three goals and one assist.

The Firebirds conclude their inaugural season with a record of 0-10 overall and 0-7 in the East Coast Conference.
