UDC Women’s Lacrosse Downed by Georgian Court

WASHINGTON, DC – The University of the District of Columbia women's lacrosse team was defeated by non-conference foe Georgian Court, 17-3 on a beautiful Thursday afternoon at Georgetown Multi-Sport Field.

The Firebirds (0-6) were led offensively by sophomore midfielder Tiara Goode (Criminal Justice – Brentwood, NY/Brentwood HS) and junior midfielder Amber Walls (Biology – Temple Hills, MD/Surrattsville HS). Goode won the draw control after Georgian Court's game-opening goal, and took off straight for the goal from midfield and fired a shot from point blank range to even the score, 1-1 at the 27:27 mark. Both of Walls' goals came on free position attempts late in the second half.

The Lions (11-3) featured seven different goal scorers, including five with multiple goals. Melissa Williams registered a game-high six points on two goals and four assists, attack Kerry Stader scored four goals and added one assist, and midfielders Molly McCourt and Callie Brown added four and three goals, respectively.

Georgian Court, which competes in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC), has now won four of its last five games, including its last two. The Lions were coming off of a 20-2 victory over Caldwell on Tuesday.

GCU won 17 of 21 draw controls, out-shot UDC 21-3, and had a 9-2 advantage in ground balls. The Lions were also a perfect 6-of-6 on clear attempts while UDC was 6-of-9.

After Goode's goal knotted the score 1-1, Brown scored back-to-back goals for Georgian Court which went on to score 11 unanswered goals in the first half and take a 12-1 lead. Brown finished with three goals in the first half, McCourt also added three, and Melissa Williams and Kerry Stader each had two.

The Lions grew their lead to as many as 15 on two different occasions (16-1 and 17-2), but Walls' second goal of the game made it a 17-3 final score. Walls leads the team with six goals this season and is 4-of-9 on free-position shots.

The Firebirds will host Molloy on Sunday, April 13th at 11 a.m. in the first game of a UDC lacrosse doubleheader at Georgetown Multi-Sport Field. The men's game vs. Dowling will follow at 1:30 p.m.
