Firebirds Women’s Lacrosse Shut Out in Loss at STAC

SPARKILL, NY – The Spartans struck early and often for 11 goals in the first half and then coasted to a 14-0 victory over the University of the District of Columbia women's lacrosse team in East Coast Conference action at Spartan Field Friday afternoon.

The Firebirds, who won half of the game's draw controls (8-of-16) could not find their offensive rhythm as they committed 19 turnovers and took just three shots (zero of which were on goal). Freshman goalkeeper Dani Falco (English/Elementary Education – Middletown, NY/Valley Central HS) made six saves as she and the UDC defense held STAC below 15 goals for the first time in its last five outings.

The Spartans, who won their fifth straight game to improve to 9-2 overall (4-0 ECC), were led by the ECC's 2nd leading goal scorer and reigning ECC Player of the Week, Margaret Sharp, with three goals on three shots. Sabrina Prestano added a hat trick and six other STAC players tallied at least one goal.

The hosts out-shot UDC 18-3 in the first half and converted 3-of-4 free-position shots to race out to a commanding, 11-0 lead at halftime. Sharp scored all three of her goals in the first 21 minutes of play while Genevieve Stickney (5th ranked scorer in the league) added two.

In the second half, UDC did not manage to take any shots but held STAC to 14. Falco made five saves in the second half as the Spartans only managed three goals. Prestano scored twice in the second period at 15:06 and 13:40 for her 2nd and 3rd goals of the day, and Alexis Serras added her 2nd goal of the day just past the 12-minute mark for the final goal of the game.

Next up, UDC (0-4, 0-4 ECC) visits ECC foe Roberts Wesleyan on Sunday, April 6th at 12 p.m.
