University of the District of Columbia Hosts Historic First Women’s Lacrosse Game vs. No. 9 Dowling

WASHINGTON, DC – The University of the District of Columbia hosted its historic first women's lacrosse game vs. East Coast Conference foe and No. 9 nationally-ranked Dowling on Thursday, March 20^th at Georgetown Multi-Sport Field. The Firebirds were defeated by the Golden Lions, 20-0.

Junior midfielder Amber Walls (Biology – Temple Hills, MD/Surrattsville HS) took the Firebirds' lone shot of the afternoon on a free position attempt in the closing minutes of regulation. She also tied for the game-high with four draw controls. Also, freshman captain goalkeeper Dani Falco (English/Elementary Education – Middletown, NY/Valley Central HS) made nine saves in what was her and the entire UDC team's collegiate lacrosse debut.

Dowling, which came into the game ranked in the top-10 in the country in scoring offense (6^th), scoring margin (5^th), caused turnovers (10^th) and draw controls (9^th), was able to shut the Firebirds down defensively while scoring early and often for the lopsided victory. Attack Jackie Andersen, who entered today's game ranked 4^th in Division II for goals per-game and 6^th in assists per-game, led all scorers with seven points on four goals and three assists. Attack Katie Meinecke also registered four goals with two assists, and nine other Golden Lions added at least one goal.

The Golden Lions took 32 shots and put 29 of them on net. They also won 12 of 22 draw controls and were a perfect 4-of-4 on clear attempts while holding UDC to 1-of-7. Dowling also forced the inexperienced Firebirds into 23 turnovers, 17 of which came as UDC settled into the game in the first half. The Golden Lions turned the ball over just eight times.

The Firebirds have a week off before their next game on March 27^th on the road at another ECC foe, Queens College.
