University of the District of Columbia Women's Lacrosse Names Dani Falco, Tara Usko, and Amber Walls Co-Captains for Inaugural 2014 Season

WASHINGTON, DC - Dani Falco, Tara Usko, and Amber Walls have been selected as the co-captains for the inaugural 2014 University of the District of Columbia women's lacrosse squad, head coach Melynda Brown announced Tuesday.

"Dani, Tara, and Amber all bring different leadership qualities to the table," Brown said. "I couldn't have asked for a better group of captains for our first season."

Falco (English/Elementary Education - Middletown, NY/Valley Central HS), who was a first team all-star in lacrosse and also on the state team for swimming in high school, is a freshman goalkeeper who will be playing her first season of collegiate lacrosse.

"Dani has been our vocal leader since the very first day," Brown said. "She comes in everyday with a great attitude and works extremely hard in and out of practice."

Usko (History - Spring Creek, NV/Spring Creek HS) is a senior who will be playing both defense and midfield for the Firebirds in her first season of collegiate lacrosse. In high school, she was an accomplished student-athlete in both volleyball and basketball, winning the 2007 Nevada state championship in volleyball and earning all-state honorable mention in basketball in 2007 and 2008.

"Tara is a great vocal leader but also leads by example on how to push yourself on and off the field. She is the epitome of a student-athlete. She has also turned into a standout midfielder in just a few short months."

Walls (Biology - Temple Hills, MD/Surrattsville HS) is a junior midfielder who is also competing in her first season of collegiate lacrosse. In high school, she was a talented multi-sport student-athlete, lettering in volleyball, basketball, softball, and outdoor track.

"Amber does anything I ask of her," Brown said. "She loves competition, and pushes her teammates each and every day. She is extremely athletic, and I will rely on her a lot this season."

The Firebirds are well into preparations for the fast approaching season-opener at Wilmington University (DE) on March 6th.
