UDC Women's Basketball Sweeps Redhawks with Road Victory

ROCHESTER, N.Y.- the University of the District of Columbia's women's basketball team defeated Roberts Wesleyan 76-63, to complete the season sweep for the first time since the 2014-15 season. The Firebirds improve to 9-5 in conference lay while the Redhawks slip to 2-12.

Destiny Ryles lit up the stat sheet scoring a game high 31 points, eight rebounds, eight steals, and five assists. Tori Williams scored 15 points, Latavia Jackson scored 13 and Aiyana Ellis scored eight to go along with eight boards.

The Firebirds got off to an early 10-0 start with Ryles knocking down back-to-back threes before the Redhawks called a timeout. UDC defense held the RWU offense to just nine points in the first quarter while scoring 14. 

While the Redhawks offense slowly started to heat up, the Firebirds ended up on top in each quarter outscoring them in the next three quarters while benefiting from the first quarter deficit.  

UDC led the game in rebounds (47-43), points in the paint (32-18) and points off turnovers (20-1). The Redhawks shot better from the field (39%-36%).

Up next, (17-9, 9-5 ECC) will host Queens College in their final home game of the regular season. The Firebirds will also celebrate Shanell Haskins and Latavia Jackson for senior night.
