Women's Basketball Sweeps Season Series Against CSI

WASHINGTON, DC- the University of the District of Columbia's women's basketball team defeated the College of Staten Island 70-47, to complete the series sweep, Saturday afternoon at the E.B Henderson Sports Complex. The Firebirds move to 8-4 in conference standings while the Dolphins fall to 5-8. UDC has now surpassed last season wins with 16, which is the mosts wins in a season since the 2015-16 season.

Latavia Jackson was a spark plug off the bench going a perfect 5-5 from the field to score a tied team-high 16 points. Tori Williams also scored 16 points, going 6-8 from the field and pulling seven rebounds. Jada Bouknight pulled a career high 12 rebounds , and Destiny Ryles grabbed 10 boards while dishing out eight assists and seven points. 

UDC's first quarter set the Firebirds up for the rest of the game as they outscored the visitors 25-6. While the Dolphins tried to mount a comeback it was short lived as the Firebirds outscored them 33-28, in the last two quarters.

The Firebirds held the Dolphins offense to just 23.8% shooting from the field, while shooting 34.4%.The home team had the advantage in rebounds 47-41 and bench points 28-9.

UDC (16-8, 8-4 ECC) will head to N.Y. next Thursday to face off against Daemen University. The game is slated to begin at 5:30pm.
