Firebirds Score 41 Points In Third Quarter to Cruise Past Redhawks

WASHINGTON, DC- the University of the District of Columbia's women's basketball team bounced back to the win column after cruising to an 87-56 victory over Roberts Wesleyan University, Saturday afternoon at the E.B Henderson Sports Complex. The Firebirds improved to 6-3 in conference play while the Redhawks fell to 1-7.

Five Firebirds recorded double-digit scoring and three posted double-doubles. Laci Johnson was on fire from downtown going 6-9 to tally a team high 18 points. Destiny Ryles posted a double-double off 16 points, and 13 assists while grabbing a game high six steals. Tania Hill posted her first double-double of the season, pulling a game-high 11 rebounds to go along with a season high 11 points and Tori Williams scored 13 points and 10 rebounds. Shanell Haskins came off the bench to post a season high 11 points going 3-5 from downtown. 

The Firebirds separated themselves in the third quarter outscoring the Redhawks 41-14. They shot 66.7% from the field and 75% from behind the arc knocking down nine trey's. Johnson, Haskins and  Ryles combined for 34 points.

UDC led in several team statistical categories, including field goal % (47.8%-28.6%), Rebounds (47-44), points off turnovers (29-12)and bench points (42-9).

Up next, UDC (14-7, 6-3 ECC) will host D'Youville University next Friday in a rematch. The game is slated to begin at 5:30 pm.
