Ryles and Jackson Combine for 45 Points as Firebirds Take Down Regionally Ranked Panthers

WASHINGTON, DC- the University of the District of Columbia's women's basketball team defeated regionally ranked, Virginia Union University 76-60, Tuesday evening at the E.B Henderson Sports Complex. The Firebirds improve to 11-0 on the season while the Panthers slip to 7-2.

Destiny Ryles led all scorers with a season high 29 points, going 18-22 from the free throw line. She also pulled six rebounds, five assists and a game-high four steals. Latavia Jackson was the other double digit scorer for the Firebirds posting 16 points and three steals. Tania Hill pulled a game-high 10 rebounds and Aiyana Ellis made a game-high four blocks. 

UDC shot at 35.2% from the field, 76.1% from the free throw line and 27.3% from behind the arc. The Panthers shot 25.8% from the field, 88.5% from the foul line and 16.7% from the three point line. VUU had the advantage in rebounds (51-42), resulting in more second chance points (14-10). The Firebirds were able to convert more points off of turnovers (23-12) and had the edge with points in the paint (28-22).

Up next, UDC (11-0, 4-0 ECC) will take a road trip to Frostburg State University on Friday. The game is slated to begin at 4:00 pm.
